What About Feelings?
Feelings often change.
Some days believers feel spiritually strong.
Other days they may struggle.
Assurance is not based on emotions.
God’s promises remain true whether our feelings are strong or weak.
Faith trusts God’s Word above changing emotions.
Evidence of New Life
While assurance rests upon Christ, Scripture teaches that genuine faith produces evidence.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”
Evidence of spiritual life may include:
- Love for Christ
- Desire for God’s Word
- Conviction of sin
- Desire for obedience
- Love for fellow believers
- Spiritual growth
These things do not save us.
They help confirm God’s work within us.
Confidence Without Pride
Biblical assurance is not arrogance.
Believers do not boast in themselves.
They boast in Christ.
Galatians 6:14
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Confidence says:
- Christ is sufficient.
- God’s promises are true.
- Salvation belongs to the Lord.
