Session 05 — Assurance of Salvation

Romans 8:1

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Because Christ paid for sin completely, believers are no longer under condemnation.

This does not mean believers never fail.

It means their standing before God is based upon Christ’s righteousness rather than their own performance.

The believer’s acceptance before God rests upon Jesus.

The Security of the Believer

Jesus gave one of the strongest promises regarding salvation.

John 10:27-29

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…”

Notice several important truths:

  • Christ knows His sheep.
  • Christ gives eternal life.
  • Christ promises they will never perish.
  • Christ holds them securely.

The believer’s confidence rests in Christ’s ability to keep His people.

Nothing Can Separate Us From God’s Love

Romans 8:38-39

“Neither death nor life… nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Paul lists every imaginable threat and concludes that nothing can separate believers from God’s love in Christ.

Not:

  • Death
  • Life
  • Angels
  • Powers
  • Present circumstances
  • Future events

Nothing can break the relationship God has established through Christ.
