Introduction
One of the most common questions among believers is:
“Can I know that I am saved?”
Many people live with uncertainty, wondering whether they truly belong to Christ.
The good news is that God does not want His children to live in constant fear and doubt.
The Bible teaches that believers can have assurance of salvation.
Assurance is not based on our feelings, performance, or personal achievements.
Assurance is based upon God’s promises and the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Can I Know I Am Saved?
The Apostle John answers this question directly.
1 John 5:13
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Notice that John does not say:
- Hope you have eternal life.
- Wish you have eternal life.
- Maybe you have eternal life.
He says:
“That you may know.”
God wants believers to have confidence in His promise of salvation.

Know
The Greek word is oida (οἶδα).
Meaning:
- To know with certainty
- To possess confidence
- To have settled knowledge
Biblical assurance is not based on guessing.
It is confidence founded upon God’s truth.
