Notice:
- Eternal life is God’s gift.
- Eternal life is found in Christ.
- Eternal life is received, not earned.
Because salvation is God’s gift, believers can rest in His promise.
Our confidence rests not in ourselves but in God’s faithfulness.
Salvation Is Found in Christ
1 John 5:12
“He who has the Son has life.”
The foundation of assurance is not:
- Church attendance
- Good works
- Religious activity
- Personal effort
The foundation is Christ Himself.
The question is not:
“Have I done enough?”
The question is:
“Have I trusted in Jesus Christ?”
Those who have the Son have life.
The Finished Work of Christ
One of the strongest foundations for assurance is the completed work of Jesus.
John 19:30
“It is finished.”
When Jesus died on the cross, He fully accomplished everything necessary for salvation.
He:
- Paid the penalty for sin.
- Satisfied God’s justice.
- Opened the way to God.
- Secured eternal redemption.
Believers do not add to Christ’s work.
They rest in Christ’s work.
