Session 02 — What Is Salvation?

Introduction

In Session 1, we learned that all people have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Sin separates humanity from God and brings spiritual death.

This raises an important question:

If all people are sinners, how can anyone be saved?

The answer is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Salvation is God’s answer to humanity’s greatest need. It is His gracious work of rescuing sinners from sin, judgment, and eternal separation from Him.

The good news of Christianity is not what we do for God, but what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.

What Is Salvation?

Salvation is God’s work of rescuing sinners from the penalty and power of sin and bringing them into a restored relationship with Him.

Salvation includes:

  • Forgiveness of sins
  • Reconciliation with God
  • New life in Christ
  • Eternal life
  • Adoption into God’s family

Salvation is not earned.

It is received as a gift through faith in Jesus Christ.
