Session 07 — Growing in Christ

The Christian life is not merely about knowing facts about God.

It is about walking with Him daily.

Colossians 2:6

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.”

The same faith that brings us to Christ is the faith by which we continue to follow Him.

Word Study

Walk

The Greek word is peripateō (περιπατέω).

Meaning:

  • To walk
  • To conduct one’s life
  • To live daily

In Scripture, walking refers to a person’s daily manner of life.

Growing in Christ means learning to live every day under His Lordship.

Rooted and Built Up in Christ

Colossians 2:7

“Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith…”

Paul uses two illustrations:

Rooted

Like a tree whose roots go deep into the soil.

Deep roots provide:

  • Stability
  • Strength
  • Nourishment

Believers develop spiritual roots through God’s Word and fellowship with Him.

Built Up

Like a building constructed upon a solid foundation.

The foundation is Jesus Christ.

Spiritual maturity is built upon a growing relationship with Him.
