Session 13 — Serving God

Every Believer Has a Gift

1 Peter 4:10

“As each one has received a gift…”

Notice the phrase:

“each one.”

Every believer has received something from God to be used in service.

God equips His people differently.

Not everyone serves in the same way, but everyone has a role.

Spiritual Gifts

The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to believers for the benefit of the church.

Romans 12:6

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.”

Examples of spiritual gifts include:

  • Teaching
  • Encouragement
  • Serving
  • Giving
  • Leadership
  • Mercy
  • Hospitality

These gifts are given to strengthen and build up God’s people.

Serving in the Body of Christ

The church is often compared to a body.

1 Corinthians 12:12

“For as the body is one and has many members…”

Just as every part of the human body has a purpose, every believer has a role within the church.

Some serve visibly.

Others serve quietly behind the scenes.

Both are valuable and necessary.

God uses every member of the body.

Serving With Humility

One of the greatest dangers in ministry is pride.

Believers must remember that all gifts come from God.
