The name Yeshua (Jesus) comes from the same root idea:

“The Lord saves.”

Greek: Soteria (σωτηρία)

Meaning:

  • Deliverance
  • Rescue
  • Preservation
  • Salvation

The emphasis is not self-improvement.

The emphasis is rescue.

A drowning person does not need advice.

A drowning person needs a savior.

The Bible presents humanity as spiritually unable to rescue itself.
