The New Birth

Supporting Scripture

Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Because all have sinned, all need the new birth.

Main Teaching Point 2

The New Birth Is The Work Of God

Titus 3:5

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

The Bible describes the new birth as regeneration.

Regeneration is God’s work of giving life to those who are spiritually dead.

Salvation is not achieved.

Salvation is received.

Discussion Question

Why is this truth important?

Answer

Because it removes pride and reminds us that salvation is entirely by God’s grace.

Main Teaching Point 3

The New Birth Produces A New Life

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…”

The evidence of the new birth is transformation.

Not perfection.

Transformation.

A believer begins to develop:

  • Love for Christ
  • Hunger for God’s Word
  • Conviction of sin
  • Desire to obey God
  • Love for other believers

Growth may be gradual, but life is present.
