- Comes through human birth
- Brings us into a human family
- Begins our earthly life
- Gives us a physical nature
- Results in our first birth
Spiritual Birth
- Produces spiritual life
- Comes through the work of the Holy Spirit
- Brings us into the family of God
- Begins eternal life in Christ
- Gives us a new spiritual nature
- Results in being born from above
- Creates a new relationship with God
- Marks the beginning of the Christian life

- Physical birth makes us alive physically.
- Spiritual birth makes us alive spiritually.
- Physical birth is received from our earthly parents.
- Spiritual birth is received from God.
- Physical birth happens once and brings us into this world.
- Spiritual birth happens once and brings us into God’s kingdom.
- No one can give birth to themselves physically.
- No one can give birth to themselves spiritually.

Notice Jesus does not say:

“You must be born again.”
