Before You Pray: A Biblical Guide to Approaching God

6. Begin With Worship

Before asking for anything, acknowledge who God is.

Praise Him for:

  • His holiness
  • His goodness
  • His mercy
  • His faithfulness
  • His love

Example

“Lord, You are holy, righteous, faithful, and worthy of all praise. There is no one like You.”

Scripture

Psalm 100:4
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.”

7. Confess and Surrender

Allow God to deal with anything that may hinder fellowship.

Prayer

“Father, forgive me for my sins and failures. Cleanse my heart and help me walk in obedience.”

Scripture

1 John 1:9

Confession is not merely admitting wrong; it is returning our hearts to God.
